Madeleine McCann’s main suspect, Christian Brueckner, shows no signs of remorse for his crimes, as reported by the sole journalist who interviewed him in prison. Brueckner, aged 48, believed to be the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine, is nearing release from Sehnde prison after serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in Portugal in 2019. The rape incident occurred in Praia Da Luz, the same location where Madeleine vanished two years later.
According to journalist Ulrich Oppold, Brueckner remains unrepentant for his crimes and does not see the need for rehabilitation. In a conversation with The Sun, Oppold mentioned that Brueckner appeared indifferent when questioned about any regrets related to his past actions, stating that it was a question he preferred not to answer.
Oppold described Brueckner as devoid of guilt or remorse, emphasizing his lack of emotional response. When confronted about allegations of being a psychopath, Brueckner simply stated, “I’m not dangerous.”
Although Brueckner was identified as the primary suspect in the Madeleine McCann case in 2020, he has not been formally charged and denies any involvement in her disappearance. German authorities continue to investigate his potential connection to the case, with chief prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters indicating the existence of evidence against him but deeming it insufficient for a probable guilty verdict.
Prosecutors claim to have tied Brueckner to Madeleine’s disappearance through phone records, suggesting his presence in Praia de Luz on the night she went missing. Efforts are ongoing to trace the origin of a 30-minute call made to Brueckner, as it could provide crucial evidence for potential arrests or charges in the case.
Wolters emphasized the significance of identifying the caller, as it could strengthen suspicions and lead to legal actions against Brueckner. The investigative team remains dedicated to the case, working diligently to uncover further details surrounding Madeleine’s disappearance.
