Olivia Colman Reveals Dislike for Theatre Acting

Date:

Olivia Colman, known for her remarkable performances in various roles including Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown and Queen Anne in The Favourite, recently shared her dislike for a specific type of acting job. During a podcast episode with her co-star Benedict Cumberbatch and hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on Waitrose & Partner’s Dish, Olivia expressed her aversion to theatre work, stating that she finds it challenging and tedious due to her short attention span.

When asked about her least favorite acting experiences, Olivia confessed that she struggles with most plays, citing the monotony of repeating the same lines for months as a major deterrent. She revealed her relief when a fire alarm once interrupted a play, briefly sparing her from the stage, only to be called back to continue the performance.

Despite her acclaimed work in television and film, Olivia has only appeared in four plays throughout her career. Her latest project, The Roses, a satirical black comedy loosely based on The War of the Roses, features her alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in a story about a role reversal between a chef and an architect in a marriage.

Additionally, Olivia is set to star in a new TV adaptation of Pride & Prejudice as Mrs. Bennet, alongside Emma Corrin as Lizzie and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy. Both Olivia and Benedict expressed their preference for working in television during the podcast, emphasizing the broader audience reach and impact of TV projects.
