Elections Alberta Moves to Reassure Voters Amid Social Media Concerns

Elections Alberta took action on Friday to address public apprehensions regarding voter registration integrity, emphasizing that voters’ data remains secure. Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure affirmed that no names have been removed from the List of Electors without consent, countering social media claims.

The announcement was prompted by online posts hinting at individuals being unregistered from Voterlink, Elections Alberta’s digital voter registration platform. Elections Alberta encouraged voters with feedback on the system to reach out directly, stressing that Voterlink enables swift registration updates within minutes.

Acknowledging potential registration access challenges due to input errors, the office highlighted a surge in misinformation circulating on social media ahead of the upcoming referendum. McClure cautioned against spreading false information on voter registrations, labeling it as a tactic to sow uncertainty related to the referendum.

Elections Alberta identified common entry issues hindering voter information access, advising individuals to input their details accurately, avoid autofill, and contact Elections Alberta if problems persist. The office confirmed receiving numerous inquiries following the online speculation but clarified that no registrations were revoked without explicit requests, with each case verified individually.
