During his first interview with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles since the tragic discovery of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles residence, Jake expressed how each day seems to drag on yet pass quickly.
Reflecting on that fateful Sunday, Jake mentioned that his reality hits him every morning, immersing him in the harsh truth of his situation. Recalling the distressing call from his sister Romy, who broke the news of their father’s death and their mother’s disappearance, Jake recounted the shock that engulfed him.
Nick Reiner, the couple’s son, was arrested and charged with murder in connection to his parents’ deaths. Despite Nick’s not guilty plea to the two counts of first-degree murder, the LA County grand jury alleged that he had premeditated the attack on his parents, Rob Reiner, a renowned filmmaker and activist, and Michele, a photographer and producer.
Nick’s struggles with mental health and addiction were well-documented, leading up to the tragic incident. In a poignant detail, Rob and Nick collaborated on a film in 2016 titled “Being Charlie,” inspired by Nick’s battles with addiction. The movie, portraying a rebellious son of a politician dealing with addiction, was a deeply personal project for Rob, bringing him closer to his son.
