Daniel Dubois has parted ways with trainer Don Charles following his defeat by Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois has decided to collaborate with Tony Sims, a former coach of Anthony Joshua, in an effort to revitalize his career. This move comes after Charles’ assistant trainer, Kieran Farrell, also announced his departure from the team.
Two years ago, Dubois began training with Charles after working with Shane McGuigan and Mark Tibbs. Charles was in Dubois’ corner for his significant victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua, leading Dubois to win a world championship title.
In their recent encounter, Usyk defeated Dubois in the fifth round, building on his previous victory over Dubois in 2023. Dubois is taking time off from the ring to strategize his comeback.
Reports have surfaced that Dubois’ father hosted a gathering at their home just before Dubois’ fight with Usyk. Charles clarified that the gathering was not a party but a pre-fight energy booster, similar to the one held before Dubois’ successful fight against Anthony Joshua.
Charles emphasized the importance of maintaining the same energy levels for success, citing the positive impact it had on Dubois’ performance in previous fights. He defended the gathering, explaining its significance in building the right mindset before entering the ring.
