Passengers on a sailing vessel made an urgent distress call after their boat overturned in rough waters hundreds of miles from the shore. The incident occurred off Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, leaving five individuals stranded on Thursday. The Virginia Coast Guard received the distress call from the crew of the Magic Bus, prompting a rescue operation.
The crew reported that their boat was taking on water, forcing them to abandon ship and seek refuge in a life raft. The Coast Guard swiftly mobilized a helicopter and a ship to locate and rescue the group. Following a coordinated effort, all five individuals were safely rescued and found to be in good condition.
The rescue mission involved the deployment of the Cutter Angela McShan, an Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130 Hercules aircraft, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. The helicopter team successfully retrieved the stranded passengers from the life raft with the assistance of the aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush for refueling support.

This incident comes after another recent maritime emergency where passengers from a catamaran had to be rescued after their vessel sank while on a day trip from the Mein Schiff 1 cruise ship to the Dominican Republic.
The Boca de Yuma, a 12-meter craft, became submerged, leading all 55 passengers to jump into the water. Naval officials conducted the rescue operation, saving the stranded passengers who were left floating in the ocean instead of returning to their cruise ship.
