“Paradise Park’s Escaped Flamingo Found in France”

Date:

A flamingo named Frankie, who escaped from Paradise Park in Cornwall, has surprised caretakers by being found in France, over 100 miles away. The adventurous bird managed to travel all the way to Brittany, where she was seen looking healthy and well by staff at the sanctuary. Despite having her feathers clipped to prevent long flights, Frankie made a daring escape on November 2, briefly returning to Hayle before heading to France.

Approximately a week later, Frankie was reportedly spotted in north-west France with minor injuries. Paradise Park shared this news on social media, noting that while there are Greater Flamingos in Southern France resembling Frankie, they could identify her by the clipped feathers on her right wing. The park expressed amazement at her long-distance journey and gratitude that she seems to be thriving in her new environment.

Although flamingos are capable of flying significant distances, the park admitted that bringing Frankie back to the UK is highly unlikely. The director, Nick Reynolds, mentioned the hope that Frankie integrates into a colony of greater flamingos in south-west France, considering it the best outcome for her current situation. The team will continue to monitor her progress and provide updates as necessary.
