In the lead-up to the festive season, London visitors may come across a special sight featuring Apple’s iPad. The renowned tablet has been utilized to craft 24 holiday-themed designs displayed on the iconic towers of Battersea Power Station, a site where Apple is also situated in the UK.
These vibrant artworks were selected from numerous entries submitted by the public for Apple’s “Your Tree on Battersea” competition. As night falls, these images will illuminate two of the towering 101-meter chimneys overlooking the River Thames.
One participant, Varsha Simha from Canterbury, expressed her excitement at being chosen: “I was inspired by the cozy elements like sweaters and stockings at the Christmas market during the chilliest months.” Another winner, 7-year-old Miah D.B, shared, “I created this tree on iPad because I enjoy drawing on it and drew inspiration from emotions.”
In addition to the winners, well-known personalities such as Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and Chawawa have contributed their drawings to the display.
This event continues Apple’s tradition of celebrating holiday creativity and marks the first time the company has invited the public to participate. Previously, in 2023, artist David Hockney designed “Bigger Christmas Trees on iPad Pro,” and last year, Aardman, the creators of Wallace & Gromit, used iPhone 16 Pro Max for a short animation.
Chawawa, one of the participants, reflected, “Leading Your Tree on Battersea is a significant moment for me, having grown up using iPads in Apple stores. It’s heartwarming to see the nation coming together to create Christmas trees on iPads and illuminate them in the world’s greatest city.”
The festive images will brighten up Battersea from now until Christmas Eve.
