A new scam targeting individuals who made purchases on Amazon in March has surfaced, falsely claiming a “product recall” has been initiated. The deceptive text message, received by UK phone users, starts with an alarming alert stating, “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message offers recipients a full refund and prompts them to click a provided link to log in to their Amazon accounts. It even directs users to immediately stop using the product for added urgency.
In the message obtained by Mirror Online, it states, “Dear Customer, we are notifying you of a product recall affecting an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw posing a potential safety hazard. We regret any inconvenience and value your swift attention to this safety concern. Thank you for your continued trust in Amazon.”
Despite the alarming tone, there is no actual recall. This message is a phishing scam aimed at duping concerned customers into disclosing their login credentials, which could lead to unauthorized purchases, account lockouts, or personal data breaches by scammers.
While this particular scam is recent, Amazon customers have been targeted before. Previously, in February, cybercriminals spread messages claiming products were recalled “for safety reasons,” linking to counterfeit Amazon pages, as warned by consumer group Which?
Amazon advises vigilance against scams requesting payments via email, phone, or text, emphasizing the use of urgency and convincing tactics by scammers to deceive consumers. Reporting suspected scams is encouraged to safeguard accounts and involve law enforcement.
Amazon also cautions customers to watch out for unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, misspelled links, unusual formatting, or URLs utilizing IP addresses instead of standard web addresses.
