UK Samsung TV owners are in for a significant upgrade as they are set to receive a generous package of bonus content. UKTV has officially announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung TVs without the need for additional equipment.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial setup. To enhance user experience and content discovery, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen featuring content from the U streaming service. This initiative aims to provide instant access to classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without the hassle of navigating menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, viewers will have direct access to channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden through a deep link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. Samsung anticipates that millions of its TVs will receive the update, with the channels prominently featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring easy access to UKTV’s live and on-demand content for internet-based TV users.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm about the strengthened partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility of the U app to Samsung customers and the increased visibility of UKTV’s diverse content offerings.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, acknowledged the significant role UKTV plays in enriching the entertainment options available on Samsung TVs. He highlighted Samsung’s commitment to providing customers with a top-notch entertainment experience by offering a wide array of broadcast content through partnerships like the one with UKTV.
As a leading TV brand for two decades, Samsung remains dedicated to enhancing the viewing experience through innovative collaborations. The partnership with UKTV underscores Samsung’s commitment to delivering a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem by integrating UKTV’s content with services like Samsung TV Plus and built-in broadcast app access.
Although an exact launch date has not been disclosed, the new features are expected to roll out on Samsung TVs in the coming weeks.
