Heartbreaking: 7-Year-Old Dies After Medication Request Denied

Date:

A mother shared the heartbreaking story of her daughter’s passing shortly after requesting doctors to adjust her medication. Bonnie Haydon, aged seven, passed away in her mother’s arms at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children on August 29. Suffering from asthma since a young age, Bonnie experienced a sudden worsening of symptoms in July, leading to multiple visits to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.

During one visit, her mother, Tasmine Nichols, pleaded with medical staff to alter Bonnie’s inhaler and medication, but her requests were allegedly denied. Tasmine described Bonnie as a beloved, vibrant child who had been relatively healthy until her health declined this year, resulting in hospital visits, including one on August 10 where Tasmine’s pleas for medication adjustments were turned down.

Twelve days later, despite Bonnie appearing cheerful and playful, she was placed in an induced coma. Devastatingly, doctors later informed Tasmine that Bonnie had no brain activity. Despite efforts at Bristol Hospital, Bonnie did not recover and was pronounced brain dead after an MRI scan on August 28.

Tasmine expressed appreciation for the hospital staff’s communication during this difficult time. Tragically, Bonnie passed away the following day in her mother’s arms. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist with funeral expenses, and enquiries have been made to University Hospitals Plymouth Trust for their response.
