“Father Convicted of Dam Tragedy, Loses Grave Rights”

Date:

A father drove his three children into a dam on Father’s Day, claiming he had a coughing fit and blacked out, but only saved himself. Robert Farquharson was convicted of three counts of murder for seeking revenge against his ex-wife by killing his sons, Jai, Tyler, and Bailey in 2005. The mother, Cindy Gambino, left the Australian court after the retrial, knowing Farquharson would serve three life sentences. Farquharson crashed his car into a dam near Winchelsea, leaving his sons trapped inside the car. He claimed he blacked out from a coughing fit and thought he had crashed into a ditch. Witnesses reported him asking for help to inform his ex-wife about the accident.

Farquharson’s behavior and statements raised suspicions, with the prosecution arguing that he intentionally drove into the dam to harm his children. Despite claiming his actions were due to an accident, evidence suggested otherwise. In a tragic turn of events, his children lost their lives in the incident. In 2024, Farquharson faced further consequences as his name was removed from his sons’ grave and he lost the right to be buried next to them due to a government intervention in Victoria.

Stephen Moules, the husband of Cindy Gambino-Moules, reflected on the impact of the legal changes regarding grave rights, expressing relief at the removal of rights for individuals like Farquharson. The decision marked a significant step in changing the system to prevent perpetrators of heinous crimes from retaining certain privileges.
