If you’re not fortunate enough to own a high-tech air conditioner, you’re likely feeling the heat just like many others during this current heatwave. Finding relief for a good night’s sleep or productivity while working from home in extreme heat can be a challenge. A cost-effective solution to stay cool in the summer is purchasing an affordable fan in the hopes that it can provide some relief with its gentle breeze.
A basic fan can be acquired for about £20, and although they may not be aesthetically pleasing, they serve their purpose. However, if you’re looking for something more sophisticated and feature-rich, there are premium fan options available, such as those from Dyson which have been on the market for over 15 years. These fans not only cool the room but also filter the air, reducing pollutants like allergens, viruses, bacteria, and unwanted gases.
Given the scorching temperatures in my home, I decided to test the Dyson Purifier Cool PC1 fan. This device not only circulates air but also purifies it. Residing in London, where air quality can be a concern, I was eager to see how well it performed.
Firstly, it’s important to mention that the Dyson Purifier Cool PC1 is not a discreet appliance that can be concealed. It is large, tall, and makes a bold statement that you have a Dyson fan enhancing your comfort.
Upon activation, the fanless system immediately starts cooling the room. Unless set to the highest setting, it operates quietly, and it can oscillate to distribute air around the room or remain stationary to focus cooling in one direction. The included remote control allows you to adjust the rotation as desired.
A display on the front panel shows the cooling level, rotation, power, and also indicates the air quality in the room. Green signifies good air quality, amber indicates a decline, and red warns of poor air quality. If the Purifier Cool PC1 detects pollutants, it initiates air purification. While this automated feature is convenient, I haven’t noticed a significant improvement in my health or reduction in allergies since incorporating the device in my living space.
Furthermore, it comes with a handy remote control and offers full control via the Dyson app, allowing users to monitor air quality and set timers for automatic shutdown.
The Dyson Purifier Cool PC1 fan is undeniably more advanced than any fan I have used previously. Its futuristic appearance not only enhances the aesthetics but also ensures cleaner air for better respiratory health.
The convenience of smartphone control and the allergen removal feature provide peace of mind, particularly for individuals with health concerns related to air quality.
While Dyson fans are of exceptional quality, they come at a steep price. The model I tested retails for over £400, which may seem excessive, especially considering the relatively short duration of UK heatwaves. Unlike basic fans that can be stored away seasonally, the Dyson fan may need to remain in use throughout the year due to its higher price point and advanced features.
Although my inexpensive fan lacks air filtration capabilities and
