“Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child Killed in Sydney Car Park Tragedy”

Date:

A tragic incident led to the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child after they were hit by a vehicle while crossing a car park entrance. The woman, who was eight months pregnant, was with her husband and their three-year-old son at the time of the accident in a car park on George Street in Hornsby, north Sydney, around 8 pm on Friday.

A teenage driver with a provisional license has been charged in connection with the incident, facing a potential prison term of up to 10 years. The collision occurred when a Kia Carnival stopped to let the family cross, and a white BMW driven by a P-plate driver struck the Kia from behind, causing it to hit the woman.

Despite emergency services rushing the 33-year-old woman to Westmead Hospital in critical condition, both she and her unborn baby did not survive. NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Assistant Commissioner David Driver expressed the deep impact the tragedy had on emergency responders, emphasizing the sorrow when lives are lost, especially involving children.

The P-plate driver, Aaron Papazoglu, received medical treatment before being released home in Wahroonga. Following the examination of dashcam footage, the 19-year-old was arrested at his residence and charged with offenses including dangerous driving causing death and causing the loss of a fetus under Zoe’s Law.

Papazoglu is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court.
