Zelenskyy to Visit Canada Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Canada next week, as revealed by sources familiar with the matter. The Globe and Mail initially reported this upcoming visit, which has now been confirmed by two separate sources. According to insiders, Zelenskyy’s trip to Canada may include two different stops.

Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada occurred in December, during which he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the U.S. for talks with President Donald Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution. The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to comment on the anticipated visit.

As news of Zelenskyy’s visit emerges, Russian President Vladimir Putin has mentioned that several nations, including the U.S. and China, stand prepared to aid in finding a peaceful resolution between Russia and Ukraine. Putin emphasized that the primary responsibility for resolving the conflict lies with the involved parties, Russia and Ukraine. He expressed gratitude towards those striving to facilitate a resolution and expressed optimism about the potential for a peaceful settlement.

In response to these developments, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking in Kyiv, mentioned a perceived shift towards increased political and diplomatic engagement in numerous global capitals. Sybiha refrained from providing further details, advising reporters to stay updated with the latest news.

Following 4½ years of Europe’s most destructive conflict since World War II, both sides rarely offer positive outlooks on peace prospects. Their most recent meeting took place during U.S.-mediated talks in February.
