“Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Festival Raises $20M for Women’s Causes”

Date:

Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at Great Park in Irvine, California, for a groundbreaking event aimed at supporting women’s health, reproductive rights, and combatting gender-based violence. The Daisy Chain Fields charity festival, organized by pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo, drew inspiration from the trailblazing Lilith Fair of the 1990s, boasting an all-female lineup.

The festival showcased a diverse mix of emerging and established artists, including queer pop star Chappell Roan, rapper Doechii, and iconic punk and rock acts like Bikini Kill and Garbage. Ahead of the festival kick-off, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s non-profit partners, with a generous contribution from Melinda French Gates doubling the total to $20 million.

Rodrigo’s announcement of the festival back in June highlighted the commitment to supporting women and girls, with all proceeds directed to charitable organizations. The star-studded event featured memorable performances, such as Rodrigo’s duet with Stevie Nicks on “Landslide” and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette, who joined Rodrigo on stage for a rendition of “Ironic.”

The festival, named “Daisy Chain” to symbolize unity and strength in diversity, took place against the backdrop of heightened challenges to reproductive rights in the U.S. The event served as a platform to raise awareness and funds in the face of ongoing threats to women’s rights.

In addition to the music performances, attendees had the opportunity to engage with various art installations, including a LEGO mural and an exhibit tracing the evolution of the Riot Grrrl movement. The festival atmosphere, characterized by a sense of community and empowerment, resonated with participants like Chase Martinez, who described it as the “best festival ever.”

Amidst rising concerns over women’s rights, Daisy Chain Fields stood out as a beacon of unity and activism, with non-profit partners expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support. The event underscored the resilience of the movement for gender equality and the unwavering commitment to standing together against adversity.
