WhatsApp has recently declared the discontinuation of support for certain older iPhone models, which has taken effect this week. This change implies that users with older iPhones will no longer be able to use the platform for chatting, calling, and texting unless they upgrade to a newer device.
According to WhatsApp, starting from May 5, 2025, only iOS versions 15.1 and above will be compatible. The devices impacted by this update include the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6s.
If you are still using one of these models, WhatsApp has issued a warning that should not be overlooked. While it might be tempting to download unofficial versions of WhatsApp from the internet after support ends, doing so could lead to severe consequences.
WhatsApp clarified that unofficial apps are counterfeit versions developed by third parties, breaching their Terms of Service. These apps are not endorsed by WhatsApp due to the inability to verify their security standards.
Using unauthorized applications may result in a temporary ban, which could escalate to a permanent suspension. WhatsApp advises users to switch to the official app or refrain from using unauthorized apps to avoid this risk.
Although installing apps from external sources on iPhones is complex, all users should heed this caution. It is advisable to stick to official apps obtained from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store for a safer user experience.
