“Virgin Media to Upgrade Customers to Advanced Hub 5 Router”

Date:

Virgin Media has announced that some of its broadband customers will soon receive upgrades to their home routers. The company stated that users still using older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will have the opportunity to switch to the more advanced Hub 5 technology at no additional cost. The Hub 5 features Wi-Fi 6 technology, offering faster and more reliable connections compared to the older routers.

Eligible customers will be notified by email in the coming weeks and months as the upgrade process unfolds gradually throughout 2026. Virgin Media highlighted that the Hub 5, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas for enhanced coverage, will benefit thousands of selected customers this year.

If customers qualify for the upgrade, Virgin Media will contact them directly, eliminating the need for any immediate action on their part. Users can also verify their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.

To determine which router they currently have, users can check the model name on a sticker attached to the back or bottom of the device. Alternatively, they can access the information through the Virgin Media Connect app.

Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can lead to a significantly improved broadband experience, according to Virgin Media. The new router promises wider Wi-Fi coverage, better stability, and support for future updates. It is also optimized for faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming. For instance, Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, which is more than ten times faster than the UK average.

Wi-Fi 6 represents the latest wireless networking technology, offering faster speeds, increased efficiency, and better performance in busy environments. It can accommodate multiple connected devices simultaneously, providing enhanced performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it suitable for modern smart homes with high data demands and numerous connected devices. Although Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 remains ideal for the average user.
