Members of the USA Ryder Cup team have shared their thoughts on the potential impact of President Donald Trump’s attendance at the event this week. Keegan Bradley, the captain of Team USA, will be leading his team against Team Europe, captained by Luke Donald, at Bethpage Black in New York.
Two members of the USA team, Bryson DeChambeau and Sam Burns, have discussed the likelihood of Trump being present at the tournament on the opening day. Trump is anticipated to be at Bethpage Black in New York when the tournament kicks off.
On Thursday evening, both captains will reveal their pairings for the foursomes, who will then begin play on Friday morning (midday UK time). DeChambeau, who has been active on the LIV Golf tour since 2023, explained the significant impact that the presence of the US president will have on him and his teammates.
“I hope it will motivate us to win,” DeChambeau stated during a press briefing on Thursday. “I believe it will be a powerful force for us to garner support. The atmosphere is going to be electric.”
Fellow American Burns is equally excited about the opportunity to compete in the Ryder Cup in front of President Trump. Burns is participating in the tournament for the second time after his debut appearance two years ago in Rome.
“It’s a tremendous honor to have our President attend this event and show support for our team,” Burns expressed when speaking with reporters earlier this week.
“This is about representing our nation and the United States of America, and who better to embody that than the President. We are all looking forward to it.”
Team Europe is entering the Ryder Cup with a strong determination to defend the title they won in Rome in 2023. They achieved a convincing 16.5-11.5 victory over Team USA on home soil during the previous event.
In 2021, Team Europe faced Team USA on American territory, suffering a significant 19-9 defeat at Whistling Straits. The last time Europe secured the Ryder Cup on US soil was in 2012 during the memorable Miracle at Medinah.
