A 17-year-old teenager recently put her CPR training to use by saving her mother’s life just six days after completing the course. Eliza Soward’s quick thinking and skills were crucial in keeping her mother, Maggie, alive until paramedics arrived at their Utah home following a sudden cardiac arrest.
Maggie, 46, expressed gratitude for her daughter’s swift response, emphasizing the critical importance of immediate CPR initiation in such emergencies. The incident occurred during Thanksgiving last year when Eliza found her mother collapsed and unresponsive. Despite the challenging situation, Eliza remained composed and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived.
Following the incident, Maggie underwent a life-saving operation to have a defibrillator implanted and spent nine days recovering in the hospital. She credited Eliza’s CPR training for saving her life and acknowledged the collective efforts of family and neighbors in aiding her recovery.
Maggie shared her story to raise awareness about the significance of CPR knowledge, particularly highlighting the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday as a poignant reminder of the life-changing event. Thanksgiving, a national holiday in the U.S., holds special significance for Maggie this year as she reflects on the profound impact of her daughter’s actions in saving her life.
