Two young vandals, identified as 12-year-old Felix Cohen Romero and 13-year-old Bentley Ryan Wehrly, were reported to the authorities by their mothers for causing extensive damages exceeding £37,000 ($50,000) to the Friendship Elementary library in Deltona. The boys admitted to vandalizing the library, as per a post by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
Upon responding to a fire alarm at 1 am, officers found the library in disarray, with broken furniture, graffiti, and scattered books in several rooms. Surveillance footage captured the boys, one wearing a Monster Energy drink hat and both with face masks, breaking into the library.
After the initial vandalism, the boys revisited the scene, triggering the fire alarm and causing further havoc. Following a public appeal for information, the boys were identified and turned in by their mothers, leading to their arrest.
The boys now face charges of burglary, trespassing on school grounds, criminal mischief, and theft. The community’s response has been supportive of the mothers’ actions, acknowledging the importance of teaching consequences to the young offenders.
In a separate incident, a group of vandals caused significant damage to 41 cars in the Overslade area of Rugby, Warwickshire, smashing windows and spray-painting vehicles with green paint. Warwickshire Police are investigating the incident and seeking information on two suspects captured on CCTV.
