In cases where one partner earns £30,000 annually and the other earns £40,000, the distribution of the Winter Fuel Payment may vary, with one person keeping their share and the other potentially repaying it.
The amount one receives is determined by their age during the qualifying week and whether they or someone they live with claim benefits. Individuals aged 80 or over, or living alone without anyone eligible for the payment, may qualify for the higher payment amount. The qualifying week for this winter is from September 15 to 21, 2025.
Claimants of Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or Income Support, may receive specific payment amounts based on their circumstances.
