U.S. Army unit entices troops with extra time off coinciding with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, a highly anticipated video game set to be released on November 19. The 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, is offering a unique incentive to encourage soldiers to extend their military service by providing a special four-day pass for those who re-enlist before November 14.
The battalion’s commanders believe that granting soldiers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the latest installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, known for its action-packed gameplay involving car thefts, police confrontations, and daring heists, will appeal to their interests and influence their decision to continue serving in the military.
Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto VI, anticipates a significant impact with the game’s release, as pre-orders have been described by CEO Strauss Zelnick as exceptional and remarkable. The army engineer battalion’s career counselor collaborated with the commanders to link the retention benefit to the game’s launch, aiming to remind soldiers of their upcoming re-enlistment deadlines.
According to Lt. Col. Angel Tomko, a spokesperson for Fort Stewart, the initiative was designed to provide a tailored rewards program that aligns with the soldiers’ preferences. The memo circulated by battalion leaders outlines the terms of the offer, requiring soldiers to commit to an additional two years of service in exchange for the bonus days off.
Amidst growing anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises a return to the fictional Vice City and an expanded setting in Florida, including swampy regions teeming with alligators, developer Rockstar Games has scheduled a gameplay video reveal on Netflix. Despite an early leak of potential footage by hackers, the excitement surrounding the game’s release remains high.
