Emergency services rushed to Constitution Street in Leith, Edinburgh, after a tram collided with a pedestrian this afternoon. The incident, involving a 66-year-old man, led to road closures and a significant emergency response. The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries is currently unknown.
Following reports of someone under the tram, fire crews, police, and paramedics arrived at the scene around 1.35pm. Edinburgh Trams confirmed the incident near The Shore stop and temporarily closed Constitution Street until around 3.15pm.
Additionally, at least two ambulances, four fire engines, and a police vehicle were spotted at the site. An air ambulance landed in Leith Links at approximately 2.30pm, with residents later witnessing it at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by 3pm.
As a result of the incident, tram services are disrupted between the airport and Balfour Street, with ticket acceptance available on the number 16 bus route. Police have advised the public to avoid the area due to ongoing emergency operations.
