“Paris to Mark 10th Anniversary of ISIS Attacks”

Date:

A courageous police officer who responded to the Paris terror attacks recounted the harrowing moment he encountered ‘piles of bodies stacked on top of each other’ following the massacre at the Bataclan theatre.

France is set to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the ISIS attacks that claimed over 130 lives in Paris, with an official ceremony scheduled at the memorial garden on Place Saint-Gervais in the city center. Additionally, large screens will be erected at Place de la République for the public to participate in the commemorations.

Jérôme, a member of the elite BRI police force, vividly remembers the terrorist onslaught at the theatre where 90 individuals perished, admitting that the gruesome scene surpassed all expectations even for seasoned officers.

The assault began at 9:40 pm when three gunmen barged into the venue and targeted the 1,500 concert attendees enjoying a performance by the US rock band Eagles of Death Metal. Chaos ensued as victims scrambled to escape, culminating in a hostage situation that lasted until the early hours of the next day when armed police intervened.

Upon securing the premises, police discovered a haunting sight of numerous deceased and injured individuals strewn across the auditorium, with only the cries of the wounded breaking the eerie silence. Jérôme described witnessing a chilling sight of a massive “pit” formed by layers of bodies stacked upon each other.

Reflecting on the aftermath, Jérôme, who concealed his identity with a balaclava during media interviews, shared that keeping in touch with the freed hostages and witnessing their post-attack lives has given significance to their rescue efforts.

Survivors have faced arduous recoveries, with Arthur Denouveaux, a father of three and president of the victims’ association Life for Paris, revealing his year-long battle with post-traumatic stress disorder following the attack. Triggers like fireworks or loud sounds on the Paris metro can still evoke traumatic memories, underscoring the ongoing challenges of healing from such a traumatic event.

The upcoming commemorative ceremony in central Paris, orchestrated by Paris 2024 ceremonies director Thierry Reboul, will feature a stage as its focal point, along with a requiem composed by Victor Le Masne, the creator of the Olympic anthem.
