Tragic Collision Claims Life on Trans-Canada Highway

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have reported a fatality in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook early Tuesday morning.

Police were alerted to the crash around 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday. Upon arrival, both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The driver of one truck, a 47-year-old man traveling eastbound, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

As a result of the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook was closed for several hours on Tuesday. Authorities have stated that an investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
