Sky Q, known for its exceptional performance, is a highly acclaimed set-top box that offers a wide range of features, including live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its popularity, Sky is transitioning away from its traditional satellite-based platform to focus on internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This shift in strategy may pave the way for new competitors to enter the market.
Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that bears resemblance to Sky Q in terms of functionality. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing extensive TV content, movies, and sports programs, the Aura EZ offers a rare option for physical recordings. Additionally, the device is powered by Freely, allowing users to watch live TV over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content, enhancing flexibility and convenience for users.
The Aura EZ boasts features such as 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can control the device remotely using the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app to manage recordings and browse schedules from anywhere.
While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it stands out as a cost-free service without any subscription fees. The Humax Aura EZ is slated for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.
In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a discounted monthly rate of £24. Subscribers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. The bundle aims to deliver value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also enjoy over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The £24 bundle includes Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads starting from March, HBO Max Basic with Ads launching on March 26, Hayu available from July (with selected content accessible from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
