The provincial police oversight agency is conducting an investigation following a collision between a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, on Friday. According to Monica Hudon, a spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the incident occurred when a Durham Regional Police Service officer was responding to an emergency call on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m.
The crash took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road, resulting in the occupants of the civilian vehicle being taken to the hospital. Hudon mentioned that a child in the vehicle sustained a serious injury. Durham police confirmed that their officers were en route to a call when the collision happened, prompting the involvement of the SIU. Constable Nick Gluckstein informed CBC Toronto via email about the situation on Monday.
Following the collision, Durham police posted on social media that Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, while southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue was also affected for the investigation. By 2 a.m. Saturday, the roadways had reopened, as confirmed by Durham police.
