The Ottawa Rapid have revealed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement follows the decision by current head coach Katrine Pedersen to depart from her role at the end of the season, as reported last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive soccer career that includes participation in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. With coaching experience in various countries such as Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia, Moscato brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.
The Rapid has confirmed that Moscato has signed a two-season contract and will immediately start planning for the 2027 season, focusing on player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato’s leadership, coaching expertise, and understanding of Canadian soccer in a recent press release.
In response, Moscato stated, “The Rapid has made significant progress in a short time frame. I am excited to continue this momentum and create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”
Currently leading the Northern Super League standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa has shown strong performance, with their last defeat dating back to late May. The team’s upcoming game will be against Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and viewers can watch it live on CBC Gem.
