Thousands of individuals receiving benefits are set to get an additional payment of £293.50 later this year. This extra sum will be provided to those currently receiving Carer’s Allowance in Scotland.
Eligibility for this bonus payment also extends to recipients of Carer Support Payment, which has replaced Carer’s Allowance in Scotland. Known as the Carer’s Allowance Supplement, this payment is disbursed twice annually, with the last payment made in June 2025 and the next scheduled for December 2025. Typically, individuals must be receiving Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment to qualify for this additional amount.
Those entitled to the payment will receive a notification from Social Security Scotland and the sum will be automatically deposited into their regular bank account without the need for an application.
Carer’s Allowance and Carer Support Payment amount to £83.30 per week each. To verify eligibility for Carer’s Allowance, refer below. This news follows the announcement of a forthcoming £200 payment for state pensioners born before 1959.
Carer’s Allowance is granted to those dedicating at least 35 hours per week to caregiving responsibilities, which may include aiding with daily activities like bathing, bill management, or accompanying them to medical appointments.
Care recipients must also be receiving specific benefits. Applicants must be 16 years or older, not engaged in full-time education, and not studying for over 21 hours weekly. There is an income threshold of £196 per week to maintain eligibility for Carer’s Allowance. Crossing this limit, even by £1, results in the loss of entitlement to the allowance. It is not necessary to be related to the person being cared for, and if multiple individuals care for the same person, only one can claim Carer’s Allowance.
Applying for Carer’s Allowance can impact the benefits of both the caregiver and the care recipient.
