Ryanair has announced a ‘fuel update’ for its passengers. The airline revealed this information on social media, indicating modifications to its flights. Through a YouTube post, Ryanair outlined its strategies for enhancing flight operations in the upcoming years.
The video, titled “Pathway to net zero carbon emissions goal,” detailed the airline’s commitment to reducing noise levels and fuel consumption on flights, among other advantages. Ryanair, known as Europe’s largest airline group, aims to achieve its net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050 in alignment with the Paris Agreement and the aviation industry’s Destination 2050 initiative.
In the communication, Ryanair assured customers of its progress towards decarbonization in accordance with EU climate targets. The video emphasized the airline’s adoption of new technology, including 210 innovative aircraft designed to reduce fuel usage by 16% and noise levels by 40%.
Furthermore, Ryanair emphasized the benefits of sustainable aviation fuel, highlighting an 80% reduction in lifecycle emissions. The airline also discussed operational enhancements like single-engine taxiing and dynamic flight planning to enhance efficiency.
On its website, Ryanair provided additional insights for interested passengers. The airline disclosed that 32% of its carbon-emission reduction targets would stem from technological and operational advancements, 34% from increased use of sustainable aviation fuel, 10% from the Single European Sky initiative, and 24% from offsetting measures.
Ryanair’s collaboration with Trinity College Dublin was highlighted on its website, aiming to accelerate the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel. The airline plans to power 12.5% of its flights with SAF by 2030 through innovative initiatives.
Destination 2050, an industry alliance focused on achieving climate-neutral European aviation, expressed confidence in attaining net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The initiative believes in a collaborative effort between policymakers and the industry to achieve sustainable growth in air transport while reducing emissions.
By 2030, Destination 2050 aims to reduce net CO2 emissions from intra-European flights by 55% compared to 1990 levels through fleet modernization, sustainable aviation fuel implementation, operational enhancements, and compliance with the EU Emissions Trading System.
