The long-awaited return of the Rugby League Ashes to the BBC is set to take place this month after a hiatus of more than 20 years. The historic series, which originated in 1908, featured Great Britain against Australia in 39 matches until it ceased in 2003. Now, England will replace Great Britain as they challenge the Australian team, known as the Kangaroos.
Under the guidance of head coach Shaun Wane, England will step into the rivalry against Australia after an eight-year gap since their last face-off in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup final. The series will include matches at Wembley Stadium on October 25, the Hill Dickinson Stadium on November 1, and potentially a decisive game at AMT Headingley Stadium on November 8.
BBC One and BBC iPlayer will broadcast all three fixtures live, with Mark Chapman leading the coverage alongside a panel of pundits such as Sam Burgess, Kev Brown, Jon Wilkin, Jamie Peacock, Jodie Cunningham, and Robbie Hunter-Paul. Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Davies will provide co-commentary, joined by lead commentator Matt Newsum and other experts like James Graham, John Kear, and Brian Noble. Tanya Arnold and Damian Johnson will report from the sidelines.
