“Promise David Joins Brighton in Record Transfer”

Date:

Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Canadian striker Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The player, who previously played for Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, has been signed on a season-long loan with an option to buy for a reported sum of $29.7 million US, subject to certain conditions being met.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making the move to the Premier League starting from the next season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. During his time at Union, David scored 41 goals in 82 matches and played a key role in the team winning its first league title in 90 years back in 2025. His contract with Union was extended until June 2029.

Having represented Canada in the recent World Cup, David notched a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also featured in 14 matches for the Canadian national team, scoring four goals. Born in Brampton, Ontario, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 with FIFA’s approval following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.

Brighton marks the latest chapter in David’s diverse career, which has seen him ply his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable additions to the team. With Brighton aiming to build on their eighth-place finish in the previous Premier League season, David’s prime years in football are eagerly anticipated by the club.
