Poundland has announced the cessation of its online product sales following its acquisition for a nominal fee. Starting from September 16, the company will limit its website to browsing only and will discontinue its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, on the same day.
The Poundland Perks program enables customers to earn points on purchases, which can later be exchanged for vouchers. Customers receive 100 points for every £1 spent on eligible items online or in-store. Accumulating 5,000 points allows customers to redeem a £1 voucher for shopping at Poundland. Unused vouchers can still be utilized until January 15, 2026.
In an update on its website, Poundland stated that it is streamlining and refocusing its stores to offer a broader range of products at £1, with new items replenished weekly. However, the company will discontinue its online delivery service from September 16, 2025. Poundland acknowledged that while many online shoppers also visit their physical stores, the end of online ordering will disappoint those who relied on the service.
Following the sale of Poundland for £1 to investment firm Gordon Brothers, the retailer has also revealed the permanent closure of 68 stores. Poundland previously operated approximately 800 stores, but with the latest closures and lease expirations, the store count will shrink to between 650 and 700.
Additionally, Poundland will shutter its distribution center in Darton, South Yorkshire, and its national distribution center in Bilston, West Midlands, in early 2026. Retail director Darren MacDonald expressed regret over the store closures but emphasized the necessity to secure jobs and the future of hundreds of stores.
Stephan Borchert, Pepco Group chief executive, highlighted the sale’s role in simplifying the group and focusing on the successful Pepco business. Poundland, a significant player in UK discount retail, attracts millions of customers annually and maintains a strong brand presence. Borchert extended gratitude to the Poundland team for their dedication and wished them success under new leadership.
