“OVO Launches £56M Winter Support Package”

Date:

OVO has launched a £56 million support initiative for the upcoming winter season, offering complimentary energy-saving products to customers. The package includes items such as electric blankets, smart sockets, and home efficiency kits. Additionally, OVO is providing free energy upgrades like loft insulation, new boilers, and heat pumps to eligible individuals.

Moreover, the company is extending financial assistance to those facing difficulties, offering support such as direct debit reductions, emergency credit top-ups, and extended repayment options. While OVO’s support services are available year-round, applications for enhanced winter support will open in October. Notably, OVO has already allocated £190 million in support since 2022, benefiting 42,000 customers in the previous year.

David Buttress, the CEO of OVO, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts with charity partners to deliver substantial customer support. He underlined the need for systemic improvements in the energy sector, advocating for targeted assistance like social tariffs to ensure inclusivity and fairness for all consumers.

In partnership with the Warm Welcome Campaign, OVO aims to create welcoming spaces across the country where individuals can receive practical support during the challenging winter months. Vikki Brownridge, CEO at StepChange debt charity, expressed appreciation for OVO’s ongoing collaboration, highlighting the critical role of their Extra Support program in helping customers navigate energy bill challenges and financial hardships.

As energy prices are projected to increase this winter, with the Ofgem price cap rising from £1,720 to £1,755 per year starting October 1, concerns about rising bills are mounting among consumers. Recent polling by OVO revealed that 91% of respondents are anxious about their winter energy expenses, with 71% expressing heightened concerns compared to the previous year.

This initiative comes at a time when households are grappling with rising living costs, and OVO’s commitment to supporting customers through tailored assistance and advice is expected to make a significant impact.
