Olly Murs recently opened up about his relationship with his twin brother, describing their upbringing as “quite special.” The singer shared this revelation during an episode of The Therapy Crouch podcast with Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch in August. The conversation touched on his brother, Ben, with whom he reportedly had a falling out after missing Ben’s wedding to participate in The X Factor in 2009.
During the podcast, Olly, who became a father to a son named Albert in September, discussed his new addition to the family. The discussion then turned to the concept of “Irish twins,” referring to siblings born less than a year apart.
It was during this discussion that Olly disclosed his own status as a twin but mentioned that he and his brother have not communicated in a long time. Reflecting on their relationship, he humorously corrected himself by saying, “I say, ‘We were twins’; we’re still twins, but no, we…” when asked if they were identical, he clarified that they are fraternal twins.
Despite rarely addressing the rift with his brother, it was reported that Ben criticized Olly for prioritizing his commitments to The X Factor over family. In a 2009 interview with the Sunday People, Ben expressed feeling neglected by Olly, stating that the show and individuals like Simon Cowell seemed more important to him than his own brother.
In a separate instance, Olly explained his absence from Ben’s wedding on The Voice, emotionally revealing that his participation in The X Factor prevented him from attending the wedding.
