Ofcom has launched a new service called Map Your Mobile, designed to help smartphone users find the best network signal in their area. By entering their postcode into the tool, consumers can see which mobile operator offers the best performance for data and calls.
According to Ofcom, many people may be missing out on improved mobile connectivity by not using the most suitable network for their location. Map Your Mobile is now considered the most comprehensive tool for comparing mobile coverage and performance throughout the UK.
Once a postcode is entered, the tool displays a map indicating the operator with the best network performance in that area. Ofcom encourages users to check not only their home location but also their work address and commute route to ensure they are using the most efficient network.
Natalie Black, Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, stated, “Map Your Mobile provides detailed coverage and performance information tailored to current smartphone requirements. By entering your postcode, you can discover which mobile network is ideal for your needs.”
The tool incorporates crowdsourced data from Opensignal, reflecting real user experiences, along with predictive data from UK mobile operators. As mobile users increasingly rely on services like gaming, video streaming, and remote work, the updated tool better aligns with modern connectivity needs.
Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant emphasized the importance of fast and reliable mobile coverage for economic growth, praising the new tool for offering accurate, postcode-level information to help consumers choose the most suitable network for their daily activities. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between coverage reports and actual signal experiences to enhance connectivity nationwide.
