In a bid to provide cost-effective TV viewing options, Freely, a service introduced in 2024, has expanded its reach beyond select new TVs. Initially accessible on a limited range of televisions, Freely has now partnered with manufacturers like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp to broaden its availability. Previously, individuals interested in accessing live and on-demand content through Freely had to purchase a new TV from a tech retailer.
However, Manhattan’s technology team has recently launched the Aero 4K set-top box, allowing users to enjoy over 60 live channels and on-demand content on any existing TV in their homes, without the need for a pricey subscription. Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K also offers features like voice search, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live broadcasts. Moreover, users can access popular streaming services such as Disney+ and Netflix through the device.
The Manhattan Aero 4K is currently available exclusively at Currys in the UK, where it quickly sold out. Interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website to receive notifications when the product is back in stock. Additionally, other retailers like Amazon and John Lewis are expected to start selling the device soon.
Once restocked, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, which eliminate the need for traditional aerials or dishes by delivering content over the internet. Transitioning to streaming services offers advantages such as easier installation processes and frequent software updates without requiring professional assistance.
The TV industry is experiencing a shift towards streaming services, as evidenced by Freely’s announcement of surpassing one million users. This trend is expected to continue as more consumers opt for modern streaming solutions over traditional TV viewing methods.
