Dan Dotson later recounted how the man uncovered £5.7 million inside the safe, leading to the original owner reclaiming the unit after tracking down the buyer. Nevertheless, the man walked away $1 million (£767,000) richer from the unexpected windfall.

Having co-founded American Auctioneers with his wife Laura, Dan has had a successful career selling various items, with a standout moment in 2018 when he made millions from a storage unit sale.
In a YouTube video from November 2018, Dan revealed a story where a neglected storage unit contained a safe holding an astonishing $7.5 million (£5.7 million) in cash. Despite a generous offer from the original owner’s lawyer to buy back the unit for $600,000 (£455,400), the man initially declined until the offer was doubled to $1.2 million (£910,700).
Ultimately, the man returned the unit to its original owner, forfeiting $6 million (£4.5 million) but maintaining a clean conscience.
