Motorists are encountering significant delays this morning as a major motorway has been closed in both directions, potentially impacting travelers heading to Gatwick Airport.
The M23 has been shut down southbound and northbound between Junction 8 for Redhill, which is also the junction with the M25, and Junction 9 for Gatwick Airport.
Surrey Police are leading the operation, according to National Highways. The traffic disruption was initially reported at 5:30 am by the AA’s traffic monitoring system.
Images reveal congested traffic on one side of the M23 near a bridge, with police stationed at the front of the queue. Meanwhile, the other carriageway of the motorway, also closed, shows no traffic flow.
Drivers are experiencing one-hour delays traveling northbound on the M23 due to an incident, as confirmed by National Highways. The closure is between Junction 8 (Redhill) and Junction 9 (Gatwick Airport) in the southbound direction, with traffic halted on the northbound carriageway due to a Police-led incident, resulting in 60-minute delays.
Travelers en route to Gatwick Airport are advised to expect delays as a result of the M23 closure in both directions due to an ongoing incident. Emergency services are present at the scene, but specific details are yet to be disclosed.
