Lewis Hamilton Helps Revamp F1 Movie for Brad Pitt

Date:

Toto Wolff recently shared how Lewis Hamilton directly informed Brad Pitt that he was considered “too old” to realistically portray a Formula One driver contending for World Championships in a new film project. This candid conversation, which left the renowned actor unimpressed, led to a significant overhaul of the script for the upcoming movie.

Initially, Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, was envisioned as an experienced racer challenging top contenders in the F1 movie. However, the final script revision depicts him staging a comeback to Grand Prix racing in his 50s, driving for the struggling fictional team APX GP alongside young talent Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

The shift in storyline occurred after a gathering involving Wolff, Hamilton, and others during the project’s early stages. Wolff recounted the surreal experience of hosting a dinner with Pitt, Hamilton, and industry figures like the director Joe and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The original concept of Pitt’s character vying for a World Championship was altered following feedback from Hamilton, who pointed out the age discrepancy for a Formula One driver. Despite initial resistance from Pitt, the script adaptation proved successful, maintaining credibility for his role.

The F1 movie, where Hamilton serves as an executive producer, received critical acclaim, attracted a new fan base, and achieved record-breaking box office success worldwide, grossing £467 million ($628 million).

The positive response extended to key figures within the racing community, with F1 personalities endorsing the film during its premiere in Monaco. Wolff commended the movie’s entertainment value and remarkable revenue generation.

Formula 1 enthusiasts can now enjoy live coverage of every practice, qualifying session, and race through Sky’s new Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, saving £192. This comprehensive package includes access to Sky Sports, around 100 TV channels, and complimentary subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.
