Jenson Button Announces Retirement, Final Race in Bahrain

Date:

Jenson Button has officially announced his retirement from competitive racing. The former world champion will make his final appearance at the Eight Hours of Bahrain in early November before stepping away from the track for good.

After concluding his Formula 1 career in 2016 and returning for a one-off race in 2017, Button has competed in various racing series, including NASCAR Cup Series and the World Endurance Championship.

The 45-year-old, who currently works as a pundit for Sky Sports F1, had previously indicated his intention to reduce his racing commitments. Now, Button has confirmed that he is bringing his professional racing career to a close.

In a statement to BBC Radio Somerset, Button expressed his fondness for the Bahrain circuit and his intention to savor his last race. He cited his busy life and the desire to spend more time with his young children as reasons for his decision to retire.

Amidst a challenging season that saw early setbacks in Qatar and Imola, Button’s team rebounded with strong showings at Spa and Le Mans, culminating in a podium finish in Sao Paulo. As they trail Porsche by 22 points in the American Manufacturers’ Championship battle, Button and his teammates are determined to give their all in the final showdown in Bahrain.

Looking ahead to the upcoming race, Button emphasized the team’s focus on securing a strong finish and reflected on his racing career coming to an end. He highlighted the excitement surrounding the Bahrain event and his intention to make the most of his final race.

Fans of Formula 1 can catch all the action live with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which also offers access to over 100 TV channels, Netflix, and Discovery+ subscriptions.
