“Harry Hall Emerges as Ryder Cup Dark Horse”

Date:

Harry Hall has been highlighted as a contender for a wildcard spot in the upcoming Ryder Cup by Sir Nick Faldo. The final selection of the European team’s six automatic qualifiers will be determined after the Betfred British Masters commencing at the Belfry this Thursday.

The only player who can potentially displace Shane Lowry in the team is Dane Rasmus Højgaard. It is plausible that the European squad for this year could mirror the 2023 lineup, except for Højgaard stepping in for his brother Nicolai from the previous event in Rome.

Despite being relatively under the radar, 28-year-old Harry Hall has emerged as a dark horse prospect for a Ryder Cup spot. Ranked 54th globally, Hall’s qualification for the Tour Championships in Atlanta starting this week has drawn attention. Notably, he leads in putting average (1.679) and putts per round (27.46) on the PGA circuit, sharing the top spot for birdie average (4.54 per round) with world No.1 player Scottie Scheffler.

During a Q&A session with former Ryder Cup captains Faldo, Ian Woosnam, and Sam Torrance, Donald expressed his admiration for Hall’s consistent performance and exceptional putting skills, drawing parallels between their playing styles.

In response to recent speculations, Hall clarified that he has not been fitted for a Ryder Cup uniform and has not had recent discussions with Donald. However, the European skipper affirmed that he has been in regular contact with Hall since last year, dispelling any misunderstandings about their communication.

While Lowry is positioned for a wildcard entry if displaced by Højgaard, Donald refrained from making promises to players regarding their Ryder Cup selection. The skipper also mentioned Marco Penge as a potential contender following Penge’s victory over Højgaard in a recent tournament, downplaying Sergio Garcia’s chances.

Meanwhile, 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick is set to compete in five consecutive events, including the Omega European Masters, to bolster his case for Ryder Cup selection. Similarly, Matt Wallace aims to secure his spot through strong performances in upcoming tournaments, emphasizing his determination to earn a place in the prestigious team.
