Lewis Hamilton has once again reached out to Ferrari executives to emphasize his desire for changes in the team’s strategies and operations. The seven-time world champion has faced challenges since joining Ferrari from Mercedes last winter, with no podium finishes and a sixth position in the current drivers’ standings behind his teammate Charles Leclerc by 48 points.
Hamilton revealed during the Belgium Grand Prix in July that he has been submitting a series of “documents” to Ferrari throughout the season in an effort to turn his fortunes around after a tough start.
Reports from August indicated that Hamilton’s communications with Ferrari focus on suggested modifications to the car and the team’s procedures, particularly regarding inter-departmental communication during race weekends.
According to the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Hamilton has forwarded another document to Ferrari’s top management, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive changes within the team. He had anticipated a greater influence on decision-making at Ferrari but has encountered unexpected challenges and internal politics.
Hamilton’s situation at Ferrari has drawn comparisons to Sebastian Vettel’s struggles during his tenure with the team from 2015 to 2020. Seeking guidance, Hamilton consulted with Vettel in January to prepare for his transition to Ferrari and exchange insights with the fellow world champion.
Following a pit lane incident during qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton highlighted an area for improvement at Ferrari, pointing out issues with tyre temperature management that affected performance.
Hamilton has noted that Ferrari drivers have been losing tyre temperature, leading to compromised performance during flying laps. He emphasized the need to address this issue to enhance competitiveness in races.
