Users of the Fire TV Stick will soon lose access to the Freevee app, as Amazon previously announced the app’s shutdown, which will take effect at the end of August. This means that starting September 1, 2025, viewers who rely on Freevee for streaming content will no longer be able to do so on Fire TV Sticks, iOS, and Android devices.
Freevee, an ad-supported app by Amazon, currently provides free streams of movies, TV shows, and some live TV broadcasts. Popular shows like Jury Duty, Alex Rider, Bosch: Legacy, and Hell’s Kitchen USA can be found on Freevee.
In the future, all Freevee content will transition to Amazon’s Prime Video app to streamline services. Users will need to download Prime Video and log in with their Amazon account to continue watching for free. While some content will remain free, there will also be shows and movies that require a Prime subscription or a one-time payment. This shift may aim to encourage Freevee users to subscribe to Prime Video.
A notification in the Freevee app informed customers that Prime Video will become the new exclusive platform for Freevee TV shows, movies, and live TV. The Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025, after which users will be directed to use the Prime Video app.
If you are already a Prime Video subscriber, consolidating all Amazon content in one app may offer a more convenient browsing experience compared to navigating both Freevee and Prime Video separately.
