Cooper is embarking on a trip to Jordan to witness the significant delays in delivering crucial aid, including supplies funded by the UK, to Gaza.
During her first visit to the Middle East as Foreign Secretary, Cooper is advocating for the quick release of vital supplies. Speaking in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, she highlighted the urgent need to address issues like man-made famine and malnutrition affecting children in Gaza. Cooper emphasized the importance of accelerating aid delivery, especially aid provided by the UK that is currently held up in Jordan.
In discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Cooper focused on strategies for achieving long-term peace following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Both countries emphasized their commitment to a two-state solution, promoting peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine.
Cooper also engaged with volunteers at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to address the reconstruction of Gaza’s healthcare system. Additionally, she met with influential Saudi women for a traditional tea ceremony and discussed the empowerment of women in society.
During her visit to Jordan, Cooper is set to announce £6 million in funding for essential healthcare services for women in Gaza, including emergency birth kits. She plans to meet with Jordanian leaders to discuss rebuilding efforts and the ceasefire situation.
Furthermore, Cooper will interact with schoolgirls, visit hospitals where children evacuated from Gaza were treated in the UK, and observe the training of Palestinian security forces based in the West Bank.
