Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson faced a shocking moment during the Mexico City Grand Prix when he had to slow down to avoid hitting two track marshals. This incident occurred on the third lap of the race when the marshals, stationed at turn one, were notified about debris on the track.
Unaware that Lawson had already pitted for a front wing change due to damage on the opening lap, the marshals were instructed to wait until all cars had passed turn one before entering the track to clear the debris.
As Lawson exited the pit lane and approached the first corner, he was surprised to see two marshals running across the track in front of him. He had to slow down abruptly to avoid a potential collision with them.
Expressing his shock over the radio, Lawson exclaimed his disbelief at the situation and the danger it posed. Despite the close call, he was commended by his race engineer for handling the situation in a hazardous environment.
Following the incident, an FIA spokesperson mentioned that an investigation was underway to understand the events leading up to the incident and the instructions given to the marshals by race control.
Lawson, still shaken by the near miss, emphasized the danger of the situation and vowed to seek a thorough explanation from his Racing Bulls team regarding the circumstances. He highlighted the need to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
The Mexico City Grand Prix was ultimately won by Lando Norris of McLaren, who now leads the championship with only four rounds remaining, closely followed by his teammate Oscar Piastri.
