“Energy Providers Offer Free Electric Blankets to Struggling Households”

Date:

Energy providers like Octopus and OVO are offering complimentary electric blankets to households facing financial difficulties.

Electric blankets contain insulated wires that heat up when plugged in, offering a cost-effective alternative to central heating, thus helping to reduce energy expenses.

Octopus customers may qualify for a free electric blanket through the Octo Assist program, a £40 million initiative aimed at assisting customers experiencing financial challenges.

To be eligible for support, individuals must be struggling to pay energy bills or fall under vulnerable categories such as the elderly, households with young children, or those with specific health conditions.

In addition to electric blankets, eligible individuals may receive grants to clear energy debts, payment plans, or payment holidays, with the application process available on the Octopus website.

OVO Energy is also providing free electric blankets through its Extra Support Package, a £56 million support scheme. Participants may also receive energy-saving products like smart sockets and home upgrades such as loft insulation or a new boiler.

This support is directed towards households in financial need, offering payment plans and emergency credit to those facing difficulties. Applications can be made via the OVO website.

Energy bills have recently increased, with the Ofgem price cap rising from £1,720 to £1,755 for a typical dual fuel household paying by direct debit. This price cap remains effective until December 31, subject to further updates.

Although there is a price cap on the rates for gas and electricity units, as well as standing charges, your total energy bill is based on actual consumption of gas and electricity.

The Ofgem price cap sets limits on charges for gas and electricity units, along with fixed standing charges for energy network connection. This cap indicates the expected annual cost for a household with average energy consumption levels.
