eBay has recently implemented significant changes to its fee structure, resulting in lower costs for buyers. The platform has reduced the Buyer Protection fee from 75p to 10p.
In addition to this change, eBay has introduced a new tiered fee system for customers. Under the previous structure, buyers paid 4% of the item price up to £300, and 2% on any amount between £300 and £4,000. The updated system now requires users to pay 7% of the item price up to £20, 4% on any amount between £20 and £300, and 2% on any portion between £300 and £4,000. No fees apply if the item’s value exceeds £4,000.
Previously, an item priced at £10 would have incurred £1.15 in charges, but now the fee has been reduced to 80p. Similarly, an item sold for £100 would have attracted £4.75 in fees, which has now been reduced to £4.70.
The fee adjustments apply to all listings except for cars, motorcycles, vehicles, classified ads, and property. If multiple quantities of the same item are purchased, the 10p flat fee is only charged once.
Starting from August 6, eBay will offer expedited payments to certain sellers. Sellers who have completed at least ten sales totaling £150 or more in the past five days and have no more than two unresolved cases in the last 12 months will receive their sale proceeds within 24 hours of a sale, instead of the current two-day wait after delivery confirmation.
Last year, eBay eliminated all selling fees, enabling sellers to retain more of their earnings as they no longer have to pay final value fees, regulatory operating fees, or insertion fees. However, selling fees still apply to car, motorcycle, and vehicle listings. eBay also waived selling fees for fashion items last year.
eBay has introduced “Simple Delivery” as its default postage method, where the platform calculates the parcel size to determine postage costs. Sellers are provided with a QR code or label by eBay for posting items, with exceptions for low-priced items, bulky items, and items available for local pick-up.
