Davina McCall has shared details about her engagement to Michael Douglas, following their confirmation of the news in September. The 58-year-old, in a relationship with Douglas for six years, received a proposal during a romantic getaway in Ibiza in July. Initially hesitant to accept, she described the moment as a “complete surprise” after her partner popped the question on the beach.
In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Davina mentioned that Michael had been playfully pretending to propose for two years before the actual proposal. Recounting the event, she expressed her initial fear that it might be a joke but was moved by the heartfelt words he had prepared. The couple, who first met over 20 years ago on the show Big Brother, now plans for an intimate wedding ceremony.
Davina, a mother of three, was previously married to Matthew Robertson from 2000 to 2017 and had a brief marriage with Andrew Leggett in the 1990s. Before asking for her hand in marriage, Michael sought approval from Davina’s children, who warmly welcomed the news.
The engagement brought joy to Davina after a challenging period of health issues. She underwent surgery last year to remove a benign brain tumor, affecting her memory temporarily. Despite these struggles, she found solace in returning to work on ITV’s Long Lost Family. Recently, she disclosed her battle with breast cancer but expressed gratitude for catching it early and undergoing successful treatment.
